The Holiday Season- Be Happy!
The holidays, oh the holidays! What happy memories the thought of them conjures. Visions of brightly-lit
Christmas lights, beautifully decorated Christmas trees, wreaths of holly, mistletoe, eggnog, carolers and the hope of snow for December 25, that special day. The hustle and bustle of last minute shopping and wrapping, the hanging of stockings and for the children the exciting prospect of Santa Claus coming down their chimney while they sleep and leaving a much anticipated toy under the tree.
What wonderment, what joy surrounds this most blessed time of the year! We talk of having the Christmas spirit in our hearts throughout the month of December. The extraordinariness of the last month of the year is unequaled in its uniqueness. Truly no other month of the 12 holds as much hope for our lives and for our futures, as does December.
As we celebrate the holiday season, we long for the Christmas spirit to remain in our hearts and show through our actions during the coming year.
The entire Christmas season (and I include the celebration of New Year’s as well) is an occasion for each one of us to reflect on the past year of our lives and to look ahead to the year that is to come. Do not dwell on the negative points or chastise yourself for some of the less than stellar decisions that you made. We are all in the same boat on that one after all! Instead congratulate yourself for the things that you did that were beneficial to yourself and to others. Don’t dwell on the failures but rejoice in the good as there really is so much good around, no matter where you look. Take the time to see what is good all around you. If you stop marveling at the wonders of life, then where is the joy in living?
Always remember, that for every pain that we suffer, there is someone somewhere whose pain is quadrupled. In reaching out we find the strength and the courage to do what we must in our lives.
So go on, drink up, be merry, and don’t worry too much about counting the calories during the holiday season. Christmas comes but once a year after all!! Have an incredible one!
