Christmas, Party Ideas

Throwing a Christmas party can be fun, but it helps to be organized when it comes to all of the details. Read on for some simple and easy tips to get your Christmas bash off the ground!

-Send out Christmas themed invitations with pictures of Santa Claus, reindeer, wreaths, bells, Christmas trees, stars and other signs of the festive season. Make sure you send the invitations out in plenty of time and include all of the details.

-Decide if you are having a casual party or a more formal dinner party, and then plan the menu accordingly. If it is a casual affair, you might decide to serve finger foods and appetizers. Some suggestions for this include cheese and fruit trays, meat trays, crackers and breadsticks with dip, and mini quiches. If you decide to have a full meal, then buffet style is one of the best options. Make meals ahead of time that you can easily heat up the night of the party. For example, lasagna, meatballs or a casserole. Serve rolls and a salad with the main course. Having some festive desserts is always welcome for a Christmas gathering. Think Christmas cookies, tarts, or a Christmas Yule log.

-Festive food and festive drinks go hand in hand! Consult the Internet and some books for some cocktail recipes (martinis flavored with peppermint are in keeping with the season, as is eggnog with just a hint of alcohol in it). You might want to make some alcoholic and/or non-alcoholic punch (orange juice and ginger ale makes a very delicious punch) as well. Another option is to serve red or white wine or wine spritzers. If you plan to serve alcoholic beverages, then always have non alcoholic drinks available as well. Some examples include mineral water and cranberry juice.

-Decorate your home with a holiday touch. Put your Christmas tree up in all of its festive glory in time for the party. Decorate your home with lights, garland, brightly colored ornaments, candelabras and, of course, mistletoe. Spray-painted pine cones placed in a basket tied with a big red bow is a Christmas decoration you can make yourself. Don’t forget holiday centerpieces on your tables!

-If no one is “Rocking Around the Christmas Tree” or “Decking the Halls” then it’s not a party! Put on Christmas music that will put all of your guest in a holly jolly mood!
