Green Super Bowl Party

Party Ideas, Super Bowl

There are a lot of traditional festivities around the globe, but in our house, one of the best parties of the year is the Super Bowl party!  The Super Bowl has grown into a national holiday in the U.S. and as American football spreads its international wings it is also getting a following in other parts of the world.

In our house this new holiday is cause to have friends and family over and have great food and drinks.  We are not alone in throwing this type of celebration as the two combatant teams play for the Lombardi Trophy.

But in the era where everyone is becoming environmentally conscious, what can you do to make your Super Bowl celebration a green party?  Here are four ideas to accomplish that:

  • Get creative with your dinnerware.  Try using bamboo or other recyclable wood utensils.  Think kabobs instead of plastic knives and forks.
  • If beer is being served, recycle the aluminum cans and bottles.
  • Use paper plates that are not coated in plastic.  These are more readily recyclable and biodegradable.
  • Buy as much of the food in bulk as you can.  The more that food comes in bulk, the less packaging there is.  And it is even better for you and the planet if you can use locally produced food.

As the Steelers and Packers throw the pigskin around this year, you should try and throw a party for your guests that is both fun and green.
