Do you know yet how you will be celebrating Labor Day weekend? Labor Day is a holiday that is set aside to honor and show appreciation for all laborers who put in many hours at their jobs to support themselves and their families. Labor Day has been a part of American history for over 100 years and always is celebrated on the first Monday in September. This year it falls on September 7th. It is also the last holiday of the summer season.
Whatever Labor Day means to you it is important that you end your summer on a high note. Here are 5 suggestions for some activities you might want to make a part of your Labor Day weekend (especially if you did not make them a part of your summer!).
1. Go on a Picnic
Make some sandwiches and salads, add bottles of water and juice and some fresh fruit or a delectable dessert, and you have the makings of a picnic and some outdoor fun! Gather your family together and off you go!
2. Head to the Beach
Going to the beach is something we tell ourselves we are going to do plenty of once the heat of summer sets in. For many it does not happen this way. If the sun is shining this coming Labor Day weekend, why not enjoy a day at the beach?
3. Go for a Drive
Don’t just go for a drive anywhere but go for a drive somewhere new. Chart a new route and see where it takes you. Choose a scenic route that has lots to offer you and your passenger(s).
4. Take Off for the Weekend
Don’t stay home and do ordinary things around the house. Instead go have some fun at a weekend getaway of your choosing. Go to the mountains, the shore or do something that is totally unlike you, such as going to Disney World or going to a casino in Atlantic City. Go wild!
5. Transport Yourself to a New World
The new world is that of the movies. Find out what is playing and immerse yourself in a flick of your choice. Look for theatres that offer double features if you feel like making a whole afternoon of it. If nothing appeals to you, then rent some DVDs that celebrates end-of-summer-fun and have a blast!
