Christmas

When it comes to Christmas shopping, there are certain dos and don’ts that can make your life so much easier. After all Christmas is supposed to be about joy and family time and not stress and struggle!

Dos

-Write up a list of items you wish to buy before you go shopping, including gifts, decorations, food, etc. This will help you refrain from impulse shopping or going crazy with your credit or debit card. Once you reach the mall, head straight to the stores and departments where you can find these items.

-If you shop online be safe and smart about it. Only shop at sites that are equipped with SSL technology. This guarantees that your credit card information is secure.

-Keep your eyes open for sales and discounts when you shop. Do not scrimp on quality, but be aware of the many discounts that are around during the Christmas season. Learn to be a discriminating shopper!

-The brand of gifts matter. When you shop for others you do not want to buy a shirt that’s color will run the first time it is washed or an item that falls apart right away. Keep cost in mind always but look for timeless and true brand names that will last.

Don’ts

- Avoid weekend shopping trips. If at all possible, plan your shopping schedule in such a way that you do not have to be at the malls during the weekends. Weekends tend to be the busiest time of the week. Instead go shopping early in the morning or later in the evening. This way you can avoid the crowds and confusion, and you will encounter friendlier and more helpful sales staff.

-Decide upon back up items or second choices if you discover that you can’t find what you want for people on your Christmas list. If you limit yourself, then you might end up disappointed.

- Don’t lose your receipts! Hold onto all of them. Keep them all in the same place for safe keeping. For example place them all in an envelope marked “Christmas Receipts.” If you need to return an item or exchange an item after Christmas, it will be helpful to know exactly where to find the corresponding receipt.

-Do not wait to start shopping until the week before Christmas. In fact, why wait until December at all? When something catches your eye, buy it!
